GENIUS Meeting - 13/12/2007
Item 1:
UCL: SZ, SM, MM, OK Man: RH, RP, JB, JM EPCC: SB SDSC: KY, MM NCSA: DM,
Item 2:
SM: Stay with one list, web interface to archive. Meetings will continue every two weeks, and will be themed. Next meeting will be 17th Jan.
JM: Can we use a phone conference instead of AG? Discuss whether to continue using AG. JM wants to register frustration with using AG.
Item 3:
We want to install binaries in shared directories on NGS nodes, and also on TG nodes.
DM: There is a facility to do this at SDSC, SM will email details so that process can start.
JB: Talking about how we could make it easier to have ReG stuff available. TG & HPCx have community areas for software to be installed, so we could make available from there to the community of users.
Item 4:
SM: Automated testing. We have Inca installed on a machine here, and hope to have it working to run automated tests.
JM: Not sure when HARC will be installed on ANL. We need to contact the person responsible at ANL.
KY: Will ask at next TG meeting on Monday.
SM: We have HemeLB working on NCSA and SDSC now. Cannot pinpoint exactly what we did. We are now using the latest release of MPIg, found a few minor issues in HemeLB which have been fixed. We've gone through and tried to fix lots of stuff and now it is working.
Item 5:
SZ & SM will come and visit in late January.
RH: That's ok.
JB: Plan to have another ReG steering workshop in March, so anyone that wants to get training can do. If we want to get AHE in we can do.
SZ: That would be good, let's see after christmas what we can do.
JB: Course will be in easily March.
Item 6:
Next meeting will be on January 17th.
Item 7:
SM: Leeds now has MPIg, and OK has successfully run a single machine, two subjob job running on Leeds.
RP: Spoke to MF and Leeds are up to the same level.
SM: Maybe we can help get these problems sorted out at our face to face meeting in January.
DM: MPIg installation could go as a set of community software that everyone could have access to. Maintenance etc is then placed on the community. MPICH-G2 is no longer a required component. If it's packaged and GIG is responsible for it, then there are procedures for testing, installing etc. Brian would need to work with GIG to get it installed as an optional package. Up to now it's been much more of a community effort, moving forward hopefully it will become and official piece of software. In the meantime, perhaps the community support model is the way to go.
SM: Brian has now released the first official release of MPIg.
RP: Thinks it will be easy to get installed as a module, and made available for everyone.
JM: Try to get the LONI admin to make a native MPI installation on the LONI resources. MPIg installation has never been tied in to vendor MPI. Tried quite hard to make it work, but haven't tried to do it for a while. BT thinks there are people with similar systems that have made it work, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
