GENIUS Meeting 14/2/2008
Item 1:
UKERNA: DS
UCL: PVC, OK, SM, MM, GD, SZ
Man: RH, JM
LSU: DK, PA
NCSA: DM, TC
SDSC: KY, Martin, Jim
Item 2 Site updates:
PVC: Official HECToR allocation for full production jobs
Already active on Ranger, TACC are doing lots of work with us to support production jobs on Ranger.
Item 3 HARC:
PVC: HPCx - HARC is available on HPCx. Can reserve up to 128 cores.
JM: Updated the Acceptors, now version 2 which is more scalable.
JM: New client available, with new functions for users, and some for administrators. Something to reserve the next available time slot.
DSK: Achit and DSK working on HARC; Achit on system maintenance, and DSK on pushing it on to systems.
Meeting: Currently it isn't clear how many CPSUs are reservable via HARC.
PVC: Next question is how can we address the back end nodes on HPCx, for interactive viz and MPIg.
PVC: SB now has access to HECToR to help on code optimisation.
Item 4 - Networking:
DS: All previous network requests fulfilled.
SM: HECToR request hasn't been made yet. UCL networking people are working on bandwidth limitations in chem network.
DS: Several groups also want lightpath access to HECToR, and they have similar problems with bandwidth issues.
DS: Other projects are separate from our TSB projects.
DS: Cautionary observations on network into Wales. Network under control of Welsh government, so new connections would be needed which could run in to £100,000s p/a. Need to carry on dialogue to understand best approach.
SM: UCL networking people working with NHS to get connection in to hospital. New angio suite almost ready, but connection could take some time longer.
SM: RSIP possible solution to access back end nodes on HECToR and get data in and out.
Item 5 - Software development update.
MM: Experimenting with several optimisations for the rendering too. fluid solver complete. Getting almost 10 frames per second on a single core for a large data set.
RH: No new functionality gone in yet. Working on updating the build system to make it easier to deploy. Should be done in next week, then deployed on NGS, and then will start developing new middleware and implementing security. Will come down at the end of March for further discussions.
SM: Can deploy on OS X now.
SZ: Want to deploy stable HemeLB and get it hosted in AHE. AHE will use new version of HARC API, and be better integrated with ReG.
Item 6 - Clinical case studies.
SM: New angio suite should be available very soon, so we'll getting higher res data to work with.
SM: Issue getting access to patient data. As collaborating researchers can get access to patient data quite easily. Working with NHS on how we can anonymise data and move it around on the network.
SM: Meeting with clinicians every Tuesday morning.
Item 7 - LSU patient data network
DSK: Charlie McMann, is person who will be working on this. Hopefully it can be discussed at next meeting.
DSK: What is happening there could possibly have some relationship to this project.
Action Item: DSK to get Charlie McMann to attend next meeting.
Item 8 - SC'08.
SM: Need to plan for video submission within the next 3 months.
Item 9 - AOB.
DSK: JM and SJ apologise - telephone connection dropped.
DSK: Talked to Thomas Soddermann about deploying HARC on DEISA. TS very encouraging of the idea, and have started discussions on how to do this.
DM: TG scheduling working group will be evaluating co-sched implementations that they will be recommending. Will be inviting GENIUS members to make comments on GUR and HARC for the evaluation. Likely to start happening within a short number of weeks.
PVC: Next meeting 28/2 - 4PM.
